Fresno, Sweeney Romp, 34-10

Kevin Sweeney passed for three touchdowns and moved into the No. 7 spot on the NCAA’s all-time passing list Saturday night as Fresno State trounced Louisiana Tech, 34-10.

Sweeney completed 19 of 35 passes for 275 yards to move past Mark Herrmann of Purdue with 9,135 yards. Sweeney trails Chuck Long of Iowa by 16 yards.

Sweeney connected with Stephen Baker on scoring pass plays of 58 and 49 yards to help the Bulldogs (3-0) to a 17-10 halftime lead. Fresno State pulled away in the second half as the defense, which recorded 10 sacks and has 31 in three games, held Louisiana Tech (2-2) to 29 total yards.

With Oklahoma losing Saturday, Fresno has the nation’s longest active winning streak at 11 games and has gone 15 games without a loss. The Bulldogs open Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. play Saturday at San Jose State.
