Kobayashi Wins Asahi Cup Tourney
Japan’s veteran pro Yoko Kobayashi shot a 3-under-par 69 for a 214 total and won the $194,000 Asahi Cup women’s golf tournament by two strokes.
Kobayashi, 30, started Sunday’s final round two strokes behind co-leaders Huang Yueh-chyn and Chen Li-ying, both of Taiwan, on the 6,118-yard, par-72 Kosaido Country Club course.
Kobayashi won $32,000.
Chen shot a 73 for a 216 and shared second place with compatriots Cheng Mei-chi and Huang Bie-shyun, and Japanese pros Atsuko Hikage and Miki Oda. Cheng posted a 69, and Huang fired a 71. Each of the five received $10,400.
Huang had a 75 for a 218 and shared ninth place with Masayo Fujimura of Japan. Wu Ming-yeh of Taiwan shot a 73 for a 217 total and tied for seventh place with Mariko Otani of Japan.
American Hollis Hartley had a 75 for 224.
