Schembechler Wins 200th as Michigan Rolls, 34-17

MADISON, Wis. — Bo Schembechler got coaching victory No. 200 Saturday night as Michigan quarterback Jim Harbaugh passed for a touchdown and ran for another in the fourth-ranked Wolverines’ 34-17 victory over Wisconsin in a Big Ten opener for both teams.
Thomas Wilcher rushed for 74 yards in 22 carries and scored on first-half touchdown runs of 5 and 2 yards as Michigan (4-0) took a 17-3 halftime lead. Wisconsin is 1-4.
Harbaugh completed 15 of 24 passes for 310 yards. It was the first time a Michigan quarterback has thrown for more than 300 yards in a game.
Harbaugh’s three-yard play-action pass to fullback Gerald White on the opening drive of the second half made it 24-3. The big play was a 62-yard pass to freshman wide receiver Greg McMurtry.
On their next possession, the Wolverines went 90 yards in 11 plays and scored on a four-yard run by Harbaugh to take a 31-3 lead.
Schembechler, the winningest active coach in Division I-A, is 200-55-7 in 23 seasons, and is 15-1 against Wisconsin. He joins 14 other college coaches as 200-game winners. At Michigan, he is 160-38-4. He also coached Miami of Ohio.
A crowd of 75,898 was on hand for the game, the first night game at Camp Randall Stadium.
