WFC Roundup : Chico State Comes Through in Last 2 Minutes to Drop Sacramento, 44-38
Senior quarterback Craig Wallace threw a 33-yard touchdown pass with 1:25 left in the game to lead Chico State to a 44-38 nonconference victory over visiting Sacramento State on Saturday night.
Wallace completed 25 of 45 passes for 307 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Chico (3-2) led, 21-17, at the half, but Sacramento State (1-2-1) pulled ahead, building a 38-28 margin with 11:24 left in the game.
Sacramento quarterback Phil Hickey was 16 of 28 for 262 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Cal State Hayward 31, Santa Clara 12--Jeff Nedved broke a 17-year school record with an 83-yard punt return for a touchdown, leading Hayward to a nonconference win over visiting Santa Clara.
Nedved’s return gave Hayward a 10-0 lead early in the second quarter. Running back Michael Matthews scored on a 17-yard run and quarterback Bill Neal ran 2 yards for another as Hayward opened a 24-0 lead at the half.
Portland State 27, Humboldt State 16--Quarterback Chris Crawford threw for three touchdowns to lead Portland State (2-2) to a nonleague win over visiting Humboldt.
Portland jumped to a 20-3 halftime lead as Crawford threw touchdown passes to John Miller and Brian Coushay.
