San Diego Roundup : Coronado 10K Expects 6,600 Competitors

The seventh Leukemia Coronado Bridge 10-kilometer race will begin at 7:45 a.m. Sunday. Sponsors expect 6,600 entrants in the race across the bridge, through the downtown Gaslamp District and up Third Avenue to the finish line in Balboa Park.

David Gutierrez of San Diego headlines the five-fight card at the El Cortez Convention Center Thursday night. Gutierrez, 15-0 with nine knockouts, will fight Alfonso Long of Los Angeles (17-5) in the welterweight main event.

Other bouts:

Junior lightweights Ruben Proa (8-7) of San Diego vs. Ramon Almaguer (13-9) of Chino; welterweights Richard DeMarco (2-1) of Orange vs. Pat Coffee (4-2) of Los Angeles; welterweights Gabriel Ortiz (4-0) of San Diego vs. Roscoe Brown (3-1) of Los Angeles; and featherweights Mike Zena (1-0) of El Cajon vs. Sal Salazar (0-1) of San Diego.

The first bout will start at 7:30. Tickets are $30, $25, $15 and $10.

Amateur golfers will get a chance to get a computerized look at how their swings might contrast to professionals Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Singing Hills Golf Course.

Amateurs will hit five drives, five long irons and five short irons. The golfers then will receive computer printouts on the ball placements, an analysis of style and recommendations.
