FATTED ACTOR
Is Robert De Niro fattening himself up for another Oscar? At the moment he’s trying to put on 30 pounds in four weeks for his cameo as Al Capone in “The Untouchables,” being directed by Brian De Palma in Chicago. (He gained and lost 70 pounds for his Oscar-weighted role in “Raging Bull.”)
According to the unit publicist, the actor’s in Italy eating pancakes: “He was on location for a costume fitting in Chicago, then he left to spend four weeks eating in Italy. We tried to tell him there’s good restaurants in Chicago, but he disappeared.”
He has to report fatter for acting on Oct. 27.
De Niro’s also searching for Capone’s voice. He’s been reading books and researching his role by watching four films on Capone, but still hasn’t been able to find old newsreel footage featuring the gangster talking.
