Jimmy Connors was a late withdrawal from the $350,000 Australian Indoor tennis tournament at Sydney because of illness. Connors told promoter Graham Lovett that he was treated at a Los Angeles hospital after becoming sick to his stomach at Los Angeles Airport.

Connors’ agent, Ivan Blumenthal, said the player was diagnosed by a physician as having intestinal virus and did not go to a hospital. Instead, he was at home in the Santa Barbara area recovering.

Lovett said he will contact the Men’s International Professional Tennis Council. “I’ll be asking them to investigate the matter thoroughly,” Lovett said.
