Lakers Sign Guard Wes Matthews

Share

The Lakers on Monday acquired veteran guard Wes Matthews, who had been released last week by the San Antonio Spurs.

Matthews, 28, who has played for five teams in his six NBA seasons, averaged 10.9 points and 6.3 assists last season as the Spurs’ point guard. But now that Spur starter Johnny Moore is back after missing most of last season with meningitis, Matthews apparently was expendable.

In another move, the Lakers put guard Dale Blaney, their fourth-round draft choice, on the suspended list. Blaney left camp last Thursday, and the Lakers made the move to retain his rights.
