Steele Knocks Out McGuire in Debut
Welterweight Vince Steele of San Diego made a successful professional debut Thursday night with a second-round knockout of Los Angeles’ Randy McGuire in boxing at the El Cortez Hotel. Steele stopped McGuire at 1:16 of the second round.
In other fights, Stewart Baines of Los Angeles defeated Gabriel Ortiz of San Diego, winning a unanimous decision in a junior welterweight division matchup. Baines is 5-4 and Ortiz lost for the first time in five fights.
Richard DiMarco (3-1) of Orange won a unanimous decision over Robert Jackson (3-4) in a welterweight bout and Mike Zena of El Cajon improved to 5-0 with a four-round unanimous decision over Lonnie Bryant in a featherweight bout.
