Wilson Works With First Unit, Is Likely Starter
Marc Wilson went back to running the first Raider unit in practice Thursday, which makes it likely that he will start at quarterback in Sunday’s game at Miami.
Coach Tom Flores stopped just short of announcing it, saying, “Marc will work with the first unit . The way it looks now, unless something unforeseen happens (Wilson will start).”
Wilson left the game against Kansas City two weeks ago with a bruised right thumb, having led the drives that brought the Raiders back from a 17-0 deficit to 17-14. Jim Plunkett threw a touchdown pass to Jessie Hester for the game winner, then played in all of last Sunday’s 14-10 win over Seattle.
There was the expected tide of sentiment for Plunkett from fans. Flores has suggested he might play Plunkett more, but Wilson remains his No. 1.
Flores said that Marcus Allen’s right ankle remains sore, although it’s better than it was a week ago. Allen is expected to play.
