Local News in Brief : $150,000 Loss Reported in Van Nuys Gym Fire
A fire in a vacant exercise gymnasium in Van Nuys caused an estimated $150,000 in damage Wednesday, Los Angeles Fire Department officials said.
The fire broke out shortly after 3 p.m. in the 8100 block N. Orion Avenue, said department spokesman Jim Williamson.
Ten companies extinguished the blaze about 45 minutes later, but not before a handball court and the attic of the two-story building were destroyed, he said.
There were no reports of injuries. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
