National Collegiate Athletic Assn. investigators lied during hearings concerning the Nevada Las Vegas basketball program 10 years ago, an attorney for Rebel Coach Jerry Tarkanian told the Nevada Supreme Court.

“The (NCAA) Committee on Infractions took the position the investigators could lie because they were dealing with confidential sources,” attorney Samuel Lionel charged.

Lionel’s accusation came during the NCAA’s appeal of a 1984 state district court ruling by Judge Paul Goldman. Goldman ruled that the NCAA violated Tarkanian’s due process rights in 1977 when it ordered Las Vegas to suspend the coach for alleged infractions in the school’s basketball program.
