Fifth-Ranked Oklahoma Goes a Long Way in a Short Time for 38-0 Win Over Iowa St.

Keith Jackson scored on a 69-yard pass play from Jamelle Holieway, and Lydell Carr set up a touchdown with a 61-yard run Saturday to help No. 5 Oklahoma defeat Iowa State, 38-0, in a Big Eight game.

Four plays after Carr broke free, Holieway ran seven yards for the first touchdown 11 minutes into the game.

The Sooners (6-1, 3-0), got a 24-yard field goal and five extra points from Tim Lashar, who ran his career total to 143 extra points, breaking Uwe von Schamann’s school record of 140.

Sooner sophomore Leon Perry rushed for a game-high 89 yards, and sophomore Anthony Stafford gained 71 yards, including a 10-yard touchdown run. Holieway rushed for 57 yards.

Oklahoma limited Iowa State to four yards rushing in the first half and 67 total yards for the game. Alex Espinoza, the Big Eight’s leading passer, was sacked five times and completed only 5 of 19 attempts for 40 yards for the Cyclones (4-3, 1-2).
