Ben Crenshaw, the beneficiary of a Texas thunderstorm, scored a one-shot victory over Payne Stewart Sunday in the shortened Vantage golf tournament at San Antonio.

A double round of 36 holes had been scheduled, but moments after Crenshaw and Stewart had completed 18 holes, the storm hit.

After a delay of 2 hours 10 minutes, tournament officials announced that the day’s second round had been canceled, and the tournament concluded at the end of 54 holes.

That meant Crenshaw, who shot a six-under-par 64 Sunday, earned the 12th title of his career and second of the season. He finished with a 196 total, matching the low 54-hole score on the PGA Tour this season.

“I’m as lucky as can be,” Crenshaw said. “There is not a more fortunate person in the state of Texas than I am at the moment.”

The victory was worth $180,000 from the total purse of $1 million and increased Crenshaw’s earnings for the season to $375,669.

Bruce Crampton became the PGA Senior Tour’s first five-time winner this year, shooting a final round of one-under-par 71 to win the rain-plagued $250,000 Pepsi Senior Challenge at Roswell, Ga., with a 136 total.

Gary Player shot a 70 and finished a stroke back in the tournament, shortened from 54 holes to 36 by rain.
