Rider Dies, Driver Injured When Car Hits Concrete Wall
A 19-year-old man was killed and his companion was injured Sunday night when the car in which they were riding went out of control and struck a concrete wall, police reported.
Daniel Arreola of National City was pronounced dead at Paradise Valley Hospital, a spokesman for the coroner’s office said. The driver of the car, Tony Jose Cardenes, 19, was taken to Mercy Hospital, where he was listed Monday in stable condition.
According to police, Cardenes was driving the car south on Plaza Boulevard “at a high rate of speed” when he lost control of the vehicle, which hit a concrete wall and a light pole.
