ROSE BIRD SET FOR CHANNEL 9 SHOW

California Supreme Court Justice Rose Bird, whose Friday appearance on the syndicated “Donahue” show was blacked out locally by KNBC Channel 4, has been booked to appear on KHJ-TV’s “Mid Morning Los Angeles” program Monday.

Willie Olmstead, “MMLA” producer, said Bird’s representatives approached the station Thursday night about the possibility of the embattled Chief Justice appearing on the program. The station expressed interest, and the appearance was confirmed Friday morning.

“We’ve had so many other candidates on who oppose Rose Bird that equal time is not a factor,” Olmstead said.

The desire to balance air time among pro- and anti-Bird forces was cited by KNBC management as the reason for not carrying Phil Donahue’s interview with Bird.

“Mid Morning” airs from 9-10:30 a.m. on Channel 9, and Olmstead said Bird is set to appear about 10 a.m. A debate on Proposition V will lead off the program, and author Tom Tryon will be another guest.
