Foothill High School scored 21 points in the first half Thursday night and went on to defeat Villa Park, 35-0, at Fred Kelly Stadium in Orange.
Sophomore running back John Mountain rushed for three touchdowns, two in the first half on runs of 11 and 3 yards as Foothill totally dominated the line of scrimmage and had 360 total yards.
Mountain’s other score came midway through the third quarter from one yard out.
The Spartans (0-4, 2-7) crossed midfield only twice and were limited to 10 yards rushing. The lone bright spot for the Villa Park offense was wide receiver Dave Marsh, who caught 6 passes for 80 yards.
Foothill (3-1, 6-3) opened the scoring with 1:21 to go in the first quarter with sophomore quarterback Tom Hawkins connected with wide receiver Jason Constantine on a play-action pass for 16-yard touchdown pass and an early 7-0 lead.
The Knights’ final score came on a two-yard touchdown run from running back Mike Horton.
“We were aggressive tonight,” Foothill Coach Ted Mullen said. “We told our players, ‘Let’s put it together in both halves.’ And we did that tonight.”
