Georgeson Will Attend Arizona

Mark Georgeson, a 6-foot 10-inch center at Marina High School, made a verbal commitment Friday to attend the University of Arizona. Wednesday is the first day a high school student can sign a national letter of intent.

Georgeson averaged 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Vikings last season.

At Arizona, he will play for Lute Olson, who formerly coached at Marina.

Georgeson had narrowed his college choices to Cal, Pepperdine, Washington and UC Irvine. He attended the Nike Camp at Princeton University in New Jersey last spring where he impressed many college coaches.

“Once he attended that camp, I started getting calls from North Carolina State, St. John’s, Syracuse and Notre Dame,” said Steve Popovich, Marina basketball coach. “But Mark wanted to stay on the West Coast.”
