Western 24, Brea-Olinda 14--Art Giovannini rushed for 159 yards and 2 touchdowns to lead Western past Brea-Olinda in the final varsity game played at 60-year-old Brea Stadium.
The Pioneers (2-2, 5-4) lost their 10-7 halftime lead after Mike Oziminski scored his second touchdown, a 1-yard plunge on Brea’s first drive of the second half.
Western came back strong on its next possession, driving 80 yards in 13 plays with Giovannini scoring from the nine to give the Pioneers a 17-14 lead.
The Wildcats turned the ball over on three of their last four possessions. Art Smith’s fumble recovery at the Wildcats’ 30-yard line set up Western’s final score, an 18-yard touchdown pass from Rick Micklos to Mike Huy.
The Wildcats (2-2, 4-5) managed only 60 yards rushing and were penalized 90 yards in the second half. Brea’s Oziminksi caught 5 passes for 115 yards and one touchdown.
