A campus security investigation into a burglary has led to a drug probe and the alleged admission by four University of Colorado football players that they used cocaine during the past year, according to a published report.

The Rocky Mountain News, in a copyrighted story, reported in its Wednesday editions that unnamed sources had said quarterback Mark Hatcher, fullback Anthony Weatherspoon, cornerback William Harvey and third-string kicker Steve Nottoli admitted to campus security that they used cocaine.

A security spokesman said no drug charges would be filed against the players.

“We did investigate the drug aspects of the case. As far as focusing on other people, we did focus on some people who were football players and on many people who aren’t,” security officer Timothy McGraw said in the report.

McGraw also said in the story the investigation was aimed at tracking down the potential source of the drugs.

The newspaper said the alleged drug use surfaced during a security force investigation into a May 6 campus burglary and a traffic accident that killed two Colorado students, one a former football player.
