NHL Roundup : Detroit Winless Streak at Philly Hits 15 <i> Years</i>

Murray Craven scored three goals in a span of 14 minutes 26 seconds of the second period Thursday night at Philadelphia as the Flyers took the Patrick Division lead with a 7-5 victory over the Detroit Red Wings.

The Flyers, who moved one point ahead of idle Pittsburgh in the division, bombarded two Detroit goalies with 51 shots and extended the Red Wings’ string of futility at the Spectrum to 15 years. It was Nov. 13, 1971, when Detroit last won at Philadelphia. Since then, the Flyers are 23-0-6 at home against Detroit.

Rookie Flyer goalie Ron Hextall improved his league-leading record to 9-3-1 even though Detroit’s Shawn Burr collected a hat trick by scoring three third-period goals.

Leading, 2-1, the Flyers scored three straight times in the second period. Craven deflected in Lindsay Carson’s 50-foot slap shot at 4:17, and 3:13 later Craven scored again on a backhander. Tim Kerr got his 12th goal at 8:51.

The Red Wings drew to within 5-2 on a power play goal at 15:34 by Joe Kocur. Craven completed his hat trick on a power play at 18:43.

Peter Zezel gave Philadelphia a 7-2 lead 82 seconds into the final period before Burr got his hat trick.

Calgary 4, Hartford 3--Hakan Loob scored twice, and rookie Brett Hull got his first NHL goal at 7:15 of the final period to lift the Flames to a victory over the Whalers at Calgary.

The son of former hockey great Bobby Hull, Brett was playing in his first regular-season NHL game. He played for Calgary in the Stanley Cup finals last spring against the champion Montreal Canadiens but began this season in the minors.

On the decisive play, Hull snapped in a 20-foot shot on a breakaway after taking Paul Reinhart’s pass at the blue line and beating Hartford goalie Steve Weeks to the glove side.

The Flames’ victory was their seventh straight and left them unbeaten in November, in addition to moving them within one point of Edmonton in the Smythe Division.

Boston 4, Edmonton 3--Ken Linseman scored his first goal of the season at 61 seconds of overtime as the Bruins rallied to turn back the Oilers at Boston.

The Bruins bounced back after Wayne Gretzky gave Edmonton a 3-1 lead with his 14th goal of the season early in the third period.

Kraig Nienhuis pulled Boston to within 3-2 on a power-play goal at 10:45, and Paul Boutilier tied it on a shorthanded goal at 18:06.
