The management of the Philadelphia Eagles, upset by fighting among fans during a 17-14 loss to the New York Giants at Veterans Stadium last weekend, has adopted tough new measures to limit drinking before and during games.

A team spokesman said Friday that the new measures, including a ban on beer sales after halftime and beefed-up police patrols to stop pregame drinking in parking lots, will take effect Sunday when the Eagles play the Detroit Lions at Philadelphia.

“This represents one of the most stringent alcohol sales policies at any stadium in the National Football League,” he said.

The crackdown also includes stricter enforcement of a prohibition against fans bringing alcoholic beverages into Veterans Stadium and a request that the NFL not schedule any more 4 p.m. games at Veterans Stadium against the Giants or the Washington Redskins.
