College Roundup : UCI’s Kaplan Advances to Men’s Tennis Final

UC Irvine sophomore Mark Kaplan defeated Paul Landry of Arizona 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, Saturday to advance to the final of the ROLEX/ITCA Southern California men’s tennis championships at UCI.

Kaplan meets Kip Brady of UC Santa Barbara today at 10 a.m. Brady defeated Pepperdine’s Craig Johnson, 6-4, 1-6, 6-2, in the other semifinal match.

Earlier, Kaplan defeated teammate Trever Kronemann in the quarterfinals, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.

In quarterfinals doubles play, Kaplan and Kronemann defeated Scott Warner and Jon McCauley of Nevada Las Vegas, 6-2, 6-2. Julian Barham and Darren Yates of Irvine defeated Kip Brady and Jeff Greenwald of UC Santa Barbara, 6-0, 6-7, 7-5.

The doubles semifinals and finals are today at 11:30 a.m.

In volleyball:

Cal State Los Angeles 3, Chapman 0--The Panthers lost the California Collegiate Athletic Assn. match at Los Angeles, 15-6, 15-13, 15-3. Chapman is 3-8, 11-23.
