An El Cajon man was arrested Sunday on charges that he assaulted a San Diego County Sheriff’s deputy with his car.

After being stopped by deputy Ronald Way at Carlton Oaks and Leticia drives late Saturday, 23-year-old Jeff Scott Davis allegedly accelerated in reverse, hitting the door of Way’s patrol car as Way was getting out of the car. Davis then sped away.

The collision knocked Way back into the car and bruised his left leg. Using a license number and description provided by Way, sheriff’s deputies later found the vehicle abandoned at the south end of Mesa Road.

An investigation led to the arrest Sunday of Davis. He was booked into County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and evading a peace officer.

Way was treated and released from Grossmont Hospital for bruises to his leg.
