Police were seeking “two or three” men for attempted murder Monday after a 42-year-old man was shot once in the jaw as he walked from his apartment to his car.

According to Sgt. Bill Bechtel, the victim, Louis Morales, was shot once with a small-caliber handgun as he left his apartment on Tustin Street shortly after 11 a.m. and headed toward the alley behind his apartment. Morales was in fair condition Monday afternoon at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach.

Bechtel said police knew of no motive for the shooting. No money was taken, and the victim said he did not know his assailants, Bechtel said. Police were looking for two or three men who fled in a light-colored Buick Regal, he said.
