San Diego
A San Diego State University football player charged with battery against champion gymnast Kurt Thomas at a San Diego nightclub early this year pleaded no contest Wednesday to a lesser charge of disturbing the peace.
Michael Damien Wilder, a senior safety for the Aztecs, was ordered to pay a $150 fine and placed on probation for one year. San Diego Municipal Judge Frederic L. Link told Wilder to stay out of fights during the probationary period.
In June, a jury acquitted Wilder of a charge of battery against Keith Campbell, a gymnast in Thomas’ touring company, but deadlocked on the charge involving Thomas. Wilder was accused of fighting with the two men at the Confetti nightclub in Mission Valley in January, when the gymnasts were in San Diego as spectators at a cheerleading competition.
