Community College Basketball : McGavran Scores 15 to Lead OCC to Tournament Title With 60-52 Win

Chuck McGavran scored 15 points to lead Orange Coast College to a 60-52 victory over Riverside in the final of the Mt. San Jacinto tournament at Mt. San Jacinto Wednesday night.

McGavran and teammate Mike Kelly were named to the all-tournament team; McGavran was named the tournament’s most valuable player. Kelly scored 13 points.

OCC (6-0) is at San Diego Mesa Saturday.

In men’s nonconference action:

Cerritos 88, Rancho Santiago 79--Willie Joseph scored 23 points and grabbed 9 rebounds to lead the Falcons at Rancho Santiago.

Ron Fischer added 21 points and 8 rebounds for Cerritos (4-0).

Rancho Santiago’s Chris Jefferson led all scorers with 24 points. Teammate Chris Jackson added 19.

Rancho Santiago (3-2) plays host to its tipoff tournament Friday.

In women’s nonconference action:

Orange Coast 47, Mt. SAC 28--The Pirates led, 21-13, at halftime at OCC. OCC’s Lisa Schumaker led all scorers with 18 points and 9 rebounds. Teammate Leslie Self added 12 points.

OCC (4-2) plays host to Santa Barbara Friday. Mt. SAC is 0-1.
