Hiker Seriously Hurt After 100-Foot Fall
A West Covina youth suffered massive head and internal injuries Sunday when he apparently lost his footing and plunged 100 feet to the bottom of a waterfall in the Soldier’s Creek area of Angeles National Forest.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said Jeff Francsen, 18, was hiking with two friends in Azusa Canyon and was standing at the top of the falls when he slipped and tumbled over the edge.
The friends alerted the sheriff’s emergency services detail, whose members climbed into the canyon to rescue Francsen. He was taken by helicopter to Methodist Hospital of Southern California in Arcadia, where he was reported in critical condition.
