A leader of a University of California, Berkeley, anti-rape group told police that she has been threatened by two men who want her to abandon her efforts. Debbie McCann, 21, a spokeswoman for the Coalition to Break the Silence, reported the men handed her a threatening letter while she was on campus, where she is a junior. University Police Sgt. Sara Ferrandini said officers are seeking the two, who could face charges of disturbing the peace. The typed message to McCann was an effort to convince her to “stop being out there, stop being visible,” Ferrandini said. A spokeswoman for the group said the letter contained rape threats. However, Ferrandini said there was no direct rape threat. “It was implied,” she said. McCann helped lead the coalition in several anti-rape marches and rallies this fall.
