Lakers, who were home just long enough to do their laundry and beat Portland, will begin a three-game trip here against the Mavericks, who have already lost twice to Los Angeles this season.

Dallas, which defeated Denver, 141-118, Friday night, is leading the Midwest Division by a half-game over Utah.

The Mavericks lost here to the Lakers, 114-110, Nov. 18, when the Lakers outscored Dallas from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, 19-0. Then they lost at the Forum, 112-104, squandering a 17-point second-quarter lead.

Sunday, the Lakers will play at Houston against the Rockets, 112-102 winners in the season opener for both teams. Because of injuries to Akeem Olajuwon and Ralph Sampson, the Rockets have had trouble lately, although the Twin Towers are together again.

The trip will end Tuesday night with a game against the Kings at Sacramento.
