Two pedestrians were hospitalized and at least 10 cars were damaged by a driver trying to make his way through a congested street near the Kingdome after the Denver Broncos-Seattle Seahawks game Saturday, police said.

The injured pedestrians, both male, were reported to be in satisfactory condition at Harborview Medical Center. A hospital spokeswoman had no information on the extent of their injuries.

The driver, identified by police only as a man from nearby Kent, Wash., was booked into the King County jail on suspicion of vehicular assault charges.

Police said the accident occurred when the suspect tried to drive his car between two lanes of stalled traffic along Sixth Avenue, just east of the Kingdome.

“He went right down the lane dividers, between two lanes of traffic,” a police spokesman said. “Apparently, he thought he could get through.”

The two pedestrians hit by the car were trying to make their way through the stalled traffic, police said.
