USD Returns Home to Play Rice

The University of San Diego men’s basketball team plays at home at 7:30 tonight against Rice.

The Toreros (5-3), who last played at home on Dec. 4, have split six road games. USD beat Boise State, 54-52, in its last home game, but the Toreros are coming off a 71-56 loss to the Broncos Saturday in the final of the Boise State Holiday Tournament.

Rice (4-4) has won two straight. The Owls defeated Southeastern Louisiana, 68-66, Friday night. Senior forward Greg Hines, who is averaging 20.5 points per game, has led the Owls in scoring in seven games.

Sophomore center Andy Gilchrist, Rice’s tallest starter at 6-foot 8-inches, averages 10.9 points and 6.8 rebounds.

The Toreros’ front line includes 7-foot center Scott Thompson (18.3 points, 6.1 rebounds) and 6-9 forward Nils Madden (11.1 points, 6.3 rebounds).
