San Diego
A fire in the 1900 block of San Diego Avenue caused about $55,000 damage to a two-story apartment complex Wednesday after a couch placed over a floor furnace caught fire, officials said.
One off-duty paramedic suffered minor smoke inhalation in the blaze, which was put out by firefighters in 10 minutes, a Fire Department spokesman said.
The paramedic, whose name was not available, lived in the complex and entered the burning apartment thinking there were people inside needing assistance, said a spokesman from Hartson Paramedic.
No one was in the apartment, and the paramedic was treated at UC San Diego Medical Center and released.
