San Diego
A San Diego couple was killed early Saturday when their car was broadsided by a another car going the wrong way on California 163, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.
Dale D. Welk, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene, and his wife, Jennifer, 39, died a short time later at Sharp Memorial Hospital, the spokesman said.
The driver of the other vehicle, Peter J. Ting, 20, of San Diego, is in fair condition at Sharp.
The Welks were northbound past Balboa Avenue about 12:50 a.m. when their car was broadsided by Ting, who was driving in the wrong direction in the highway’s center divider, the spokesman said.
The CHP is investigating the possibility that Ting was driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, according to the spokesman.
