Top-seeded Hana Mandlikova of Czechoslovakia defeated countrywoman Helena Sukova Saturday at Brisbane, Australia, and will meet second-seeded Pam Shriver today in the final of a $100,000 women’s tennis tournament.

The scores of Mandlkova’s win were 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. Shriver ousted fellow American Betsy Nagelsen, 6-1, 6-3.

Mandlikova said beating Sukova boosted her confidence for facing Shriver.

“Shriver is a real serve-and-volleyer, and I had not played much of that style of tennis during the tournament before facing Helena,” she said.

Shriver has lost seven of her nine matches with Mandlikova in the past six years.

“I had a complex about her, but not any more,” said Shriver, who served superbly against Nagelsen. “This will be the first time we have met on grass, and whoever serves the best will win the match.”

Bill Scanlon defeated Nduka Odizor of Nigeria, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, and Wally Masur of Australia beat Michiel Schapers of the Netherlands, 6-4, 6-0, in the $97,000 South Australian Open at Adelaide to set up today’s final in a warmup tournament for the Australian Open, which begins Jan. 12 at Sydney.
