Long Beach St. Women Defeat SDSU, 80-59
Former San Diego State guard Penny Toler hurt her one-time teammates with 26 points and All-American forward Cindy Brown added 22 Thursday night to lead No. 7-ranked Cal State Long Beach to an 80-59 Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. women’s basketball victory over the Aztecs in Peterson Gym.
Toler, who played her freshman season at San Diego State in 1984-85, redshirted last year before joining the 49ers.
San Diego State, which has never beaten Long Beach in 25 tries, trailed 32-27 at halftime. But, led by Toler and Brown, the 49ers (2-0, 10-1) pulled away in the second half, when they shot 62% from the field.
SDSU (0-2, 3-8) was led by Jessica Haynes, who scored 14 points and had 10 rebounds.
