San Juan Capistrano : Construction Worker Crushed by Tractor
A San Juan Capistrano resident working in Oceanside was killed Saturday when a tractor fell on him, police said. Another worker was injured in the accident.
The dead man was identified as Gino Leone, 51. Injured and taken to Tri-City Medical Center was Peter Crooks of San Marcos, who was treated for minor back injuries and released.
The accident occurred at 1:45 p.m. at a housing construction site southwest of Lake Boulevard and Cannon Road when the bucket loader that Crooks was driving on a steep embankment went out of control and tipped over the side onto Leone, who was operating a rock crusher below.
The bucket loader had been dumping material into the crusher when the accident happened, police said. Cause of the accident is under investigation by Oceanside police and the state Division of Occupational Safety and Health.
