A construction worker was killed Saturday afternoon when a tractor fell on him, Oceanside police reported. One other worker was injured.

The dead man was identified as Gino Leone, 51, of San Juan Capistrano. Injured and taken to Tri-City Medical Center was Peter Crooks, of San Marcos. Crooks was treated for minor back injuries and released.

The accident occurred at 1:45 p.m. at a housing construction site southwest of Lake Boulevard and Cannon Road when a bucket loader driven by Crooks was working on a steep embankment went out of control and tipped over the side, killing Leone, who was operating a rock crusher below.

The bucket loader had been dumping material onto the crusher when the accident happened, police said. Cause of the accident is under investigation by Oceanside police and the state Division of Occupational Safety and Health.
