THE ‘PLATOON’ WAR

“Platoon,” for me, was the most powerful film I have ever seen.
With a full theater of conservative suburbians I heard no laughter at the rape scene, as letter writer Don Manning described (Calendar Letters, Jan. 11). I did hear sobs and feel the atmosphere of hundreds of eyes, including mine, tearfully empathizing.
As for cheering for the good guy at the end, that’s American. But I guess many from liberal America don’t realize that.
