For the second time this season, reserve center Kevin Brown has quit the San Diego State basketball team.

The Aztecs, who play Wyoming tonight at 7:30 in the Sports Arena, are 0-6 in the Western Athletic Conference, 2-14 overall. Wyoming is 4-2 in conference, 11-6 overall.

Brown, a sophomore, quit the team earlier this week, saying he would transfer to Akron. Brown also said he was transferring to Akron when he quit before the 1986-87 season, but he returned to the Aztecs after missing their opening game.

Brown has started four of 12 games this season, averaging 3.2 points and 2.9 rebounds. He started 16 of 29 games last season, averaging 2.9 points and 4.6 rebounds.

“I’m not happy here,” Brown said. “I don’t think I’m playing up to my ability. As long as I’m here, I don’t think I ever will.”

Said Coach Smokey Gaines: “All I’ll say is God bless Kevin. There’s no need for me to talk more about Kevin. He has already gotten a lot of ink in this program. I’m not at liberty to say anything else.”

Freshman guard Tony Ross leads SDSU with a 17.1 scoring average. Ross leads the conference making 49.6% of his three-point attempts (57 of 115).

Wyoming is led by junior forward Fennis Dembo, averaging 19.1 points and 9 rebounds. Junior center Eric Leckner is averaging 17.4 points.
