Cal State Long Beach and Las Vegas to Play for First Place in the PCAA

Cal State Long Beach and Nevada Las Vegas will play for first place in the Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. tonight at the Thomas and Mack Center.

The 49ers, who have won five straight games, are 5-1 in the PCAA, one-half game behind the 5-0 Rebels.

Las Vegas is 16-1 overall and ranked fourth in the nation. The 49ers are 10-8 and have lost to Las Vegas nine straight times.

After two dismal showings on the road dropped its PCAA record to 4-4, UC Irvine (9-8) will return home tonight for a 7:30 game against New Mexico State (8-9, 2-4) at Bren Center, otherwise known to the Anteaters as the Win Center. Irvine is 3-0 in its new on-campus arena.

Irvine followed up last Thursday’s upset of Cal State Fullerton by falling flat against UC Santa Barbara and Cal State Long Beach, enduring lengthy scoring droughts in both games. Against Santa Barbara, the Anteaters were outscored, 20-0, during one second-half run while losing, 93-75. Against Long Beach, Irvine was outscored, 42-17, after leading, 17-7, and was beaten, 78-71.

LOGAN, Utah--Cal State Fullerton will try to snap a four-game losing streak against Utah State tonight at 6:30. Fullerton (8-6, 1-4) has lost four straight games to drop into last place in the PCAA. Utah State is 9-9 and 2-4.
