Community College Basketball : Marion Leads Golden West Over Fullerton

Sophomore forward April Marion scored 34 points and sophomore guard Jennie Battaglia added 22 as Golden West College defeated Fullerton College, 95-65, Friday night in South Coast Conference women’s basketball action in Huntington Beach.

During the opening three minutes of the first half, Fullerton was close at 10-8, but in the next 10 minutes, the Rustlers (6-0, 23-1) went on a 20-8 run to lead 30-16.

Marion and Battaglia combined to score 22 of the 30 points during that spurt.

The Rustlers are ranked second in the state.

Jane Utu scored 13 for Golden West.

Carrie Milsap scored 21 and Rachel Hulburt 14 for the Hornets (4-2, 14-8).

In the Orange Empire Conference:

Cypress 80, Rancho Santiago 58--Forward Pam Fritsch scored 18 points and pulled down 21 rebounds for the Chargers (3-0, 14-7), who won at home.

Janene Allen had 17 points and 13 rebounds for Cypress. Karen Caries scored 14 and Stacy Yokota scored 13 for Cypress.

Demerial Gibson had 25 points and 18 rebounds for Rancho Santiago (0-3, 10-12).
