NBA Roundup : Phoenix Goes Overtime to Drop Detroit, 120-118

Walter Davis scored 32 points, including a pair of free throws with one second left in overtime Monday night to give the Phoenix Suns a 120-118 victory over the Detroit Pistons at Phoenix.

The defeat dropped the Pistons into a tie with Atlanta for the Central Division lead.

With the score tied, 118-118, Davis was fouled by Isiah Thomas while shooting a 14-foot jumper from the baseline.

After Davis made his free throws, Thomas missed on a desperation three-point shot from 35 feet.

Larry Nance added 26 points and 11 rebounds for the Suns, who rallied from a 13-point halftime deficit.

Adrian Dantley scored 31 points for Detroit, and Bill Laimbeer added 29 points and 22 rebounds.

Seattle 108, Utah 95--Dale Ellis scored 34 points and Xavier McDaniel added 25 as the SuperSonics beat the Jazz at Salt Lake City.

The victory moved Seattle into third place in the Pacific Division, percentage points ahead of Golden State.

Utah was within 77-72 with 11:05 left, but Ellis hit two consecutive three-point shots and the Jazz never again got closer than six points.

Alton Lister added 19 points for Seattle, whose starters outscored Utah, 95-34.

Darrell Griffith scored 17 points for Utah, and Thurl Bailey added 15.

Portland 145, Denver 141--Kiki Vandeweghe scored 35 points, including two clinching free throws with two seconds left in overtime, as the Trail Blazers overcame the Nuggets in overtime at Portland.

Clyde Drexler gave Portland the lead, 143-141, on a basket with 20 seconds left.

Denver had a 131-127 lead with 37 seconds left in regulation, but Portland got two free throws by Jerome Kersey and a layin by Terry Porter to send the game into overtime.
