UC Irvine Is Fourth in Golf Tournament
Steve Puck and Gary Nichols led UC Irvine to a fourth-place finish in the United States International University Invitational golf tournament at San Luis Rey Downs Tuesday.
Puck, with a total of 226, tied Tony Shieffa of Cal State Northridge for seventh. Nichols was ninth with 227.
The Anteaters’ combined score of 1,154 placed them fourth behind tournament winner Cal State Long Beach (1,122), Cal (1,145), and Hawaii (1,151).
Wayne Carter of Cal State Long Beach was the individual champion with 217. David Shankland, also from Cal State Long Beach, placed second with 223.
