Culver City : Quake Law Gets Tentative OK
The City Council has tentatively approved an earthquake safety law that would require landlords to either strengthen or demolish 51 buildings.
Under the law, landlords could wait up to a year before carrying out the work.
The measure targets 51 buildings made of unreinforced brick masonry that were built before 1940. Under state law, California cities have to have earthquake safety laws in effect by Jan. 1, 1990.
