Orange County Community College Basketball : Golden West Women Get Win in Overtime Against Cerritos

Golden West College outscored Cerritos, 9-5, in overtime and defeated the Falcons, 80-76, Friday night in South Coast Conference women’s basketball action at Norwalk.

The Rustlers (8-0, 25-1) had a two-point lead and the ball with eight seconds left but missed a layup and Cerritos got the rebound. Shelly Schack then made a basket to tie the score at 71-71, sending the game into overtime. Schack led Cerritos with 24 points.

Freshman guard Jeannine Battagila led Golden West, ranked second in the state, with 22 points. Sophomore forward April Marion scored 21.

Cerritos is 5-3, 19-5.

Pasadena City 45, Fullerton 43--Marty Martinez drove the lane, stopped and made a 10-foot basket with 8 seconds left for the Lancers at Fullerton.

The Hornets couldn’t inbound the ball as time ran out. Rochell Seabrook scored 17 and Stacy Rooney 14 for the Hornets (5-2).

In Orange Empire Conference:

Citrus 88, Orange Coast 75--Lisa Schumaker scored a school-record 43 points for the Pirates.

Rancho Santiago 61, Saddleback 52--Demerial Gibson scored 19 points and had 15 rebounds for the Dons.

In men’s South Coast Conference play:

Pasadena City 88, Fullerton 87--Bart Hakeman, who scored 19 points, made a three-point shot as time ran out for Fullerton but it was not enough. Kevin Patrick scored 21 and Troy Joseph 18 for the Hornets (5-3, 16-9).

John Clark scored 26 for the Lancers (3-5, 12-12).
