Pasadena : Health Care Grants Given
The Patron Saints Foundation has awarded $75,000 in grants to 14 organizations involved in providing health care services in the San Gabriel Valley.
The grants are the first the foundation has awarded since it was reorganized and renamed after the sale of St. Luke Hospital last April.
Agencies receiving the grants, which ranged from $2,000 to $10,000, include the American Cancer Society, the Bishop Gooden Home, Casa Colina Neurological Learning Center, the Hillsides Home and Villa Esperanza, all in Pasadena.
Others are Hospice of Pasadena, the Assistance League of Pasadena, the Pasadena Guidance Clinics, the Pasadena Dispensary outpatient medical clinic, the Pasadena Mental Health Foundation, the Assn. for Retarded Citizens of San Gabriel Valley in El Monte, Catholic Charities in El Monte, Five Acres home in Altadena and Santa Teresita Hospital in Duarte.
The foundation was formerly known as the St. Luke Foundation, which raised funds for St. Luke Hospital when it was owned by the Roman Catholic order of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange.
After the hospital was sold to Summit Health Ltd., a profit-making concern, the foundation reorganized and decided that it would award grants for health care activities in the Pasadena area. The foundation now intends to award grants for specific projects twice a year.
