NBA Roundup : Olajuwon Leads Rockets, 120-110

Houston’s Akeem Olajuwon responded to the loss of Ralph Sampson with 21 points, 11 rebounds and 9 blocked shots, and Robert Reid added 23 points Thursday to lead the Rockets to a 120-110 victory over the Golden State Warriors.

Sampson suffered a knee injury in Tuesday night’s loss to Denver and underwent arthroscopic surgery Thursday. Team officials are hoping he’ll be back before the end of the season.

Jim Petersen, who started in Sampson’s forward spot, finished with 12 points, and Steve Harris had a season-high 20 points as Houston snapped a three-game home losing streak. Chris Mullin scored 20 points and Eric (Sleepy) Floyd had 19 points with 13 assists to lead Golden State.

San Antonio 117, Seattle 111--The Spurs won their seventh straight game, the team’s longest streak since November of 1981, as Jon Sundvold scored 25 points at San Antonio.

Phoenix 113, Denver 100--The Suns snapped a three-game losing streak as Larry Nance scored 25 points and Walter Davis added 23 at Phoenix.

Denver’s Alex English, the NBA’s second-leading scorer with a 28.7 average, scored just 8 points. That broke a string of 93 straight games in double figures for him.

Indiana 98, Detroit 93--The Pacers snapped their seven-game losing streak as Vern Fleming scored a season-high 24 points at Pontiac, Mich. Isiah Thomas had 33 points for Detroit.

Milwaukee 120, Chicago 105--Ricky Pierce scored a season-high 32 points and Terry Cummings added 29 at Milwaukee as the Bucks ran off snapped a three-game losing streak. Michael Jordan had 36 points for Chicago.

New York 135, New Jersey 118--Gerald Wilkins got 9 of his career-high 34 points during an 18-0 streak early in the fourth quarter, and Patrick Ewing scored 38 points to lead the Knicks at New York. It was the most points the Knicks have scored all season.
