Long Beach Attempts to Beat Fullerton Tonight for the First Time Since 1984
When Cal State Long Beach plays Cal State Fullerton in a Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. basketball game tonight at 7:30 in the 49er gym, it will be meeting another team it has lost to regularly in recent seasons.
The 49ers, who have gone this season from PCAA pushover to a team that has been in second place the last month, have not beaten Fullerton since 1984.
They hadn’t beaten UC Santa Barbara in three years either--until an 81-77 victory Thursday night. That gave the 49ers, 12-11 overall and 7-4 in the PCAA, one more victory than they had the last two seasons.
Fullerton, 12-8 overall, 5-6 and in sixth place in the PCAA, will bring a four-game winning streak into the game.
Both teams have a hot guard. Long Beach’s Morlon Wiley scored 32 points against Santa Barbara, and Fullerton’s Richard Morton scored 28 in the Titans’ 66-58 overtime victory Thursday night at New Mexico State.
