Women’s Basketball Roundup : Christian Leads UNLV Women to 63-58 Win Over San Diego St.

Nevada Las Vegas defeated San Diego State, 63-58, in a Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. women’s basketball game Saturday in the San Diego Sports Arena.

Karen Hall of UNLV made two free throws with 12 seconds remaining to give the Rebels a 61-58 lead. Debbie Rinder missed a 12-foot field-goal attempt on SDSU’s ensuing possession, then UNLV’s Angela Christian made two free throws with two seconds remaining.

The Rebels had taken an 8-2 lead before SDSU scored six unanswered points. Neither team led by more than five points thereafter.

Jessica Haynes had 15 points and 7 rebounds and Shelda Arceneaux had 12 points and 5 rebounds for SDSU. Christian scored a game-high 18 points for UNLV.

The Aztecs committed 24 turnovers in the game, UNLV 20.

SDSU is 6-7 in the PCAA and 9-13 overall. The Rebels are 8-4, 14-7.

In women’s action:

University of San Diego 62, Loyola Marymount 54--The Toreros were led by sophomore forward Julie Evans’ game-high 20 points in their West Coast Athletic Conference home victory. Chris Burke added 15 points and Kelli Behrens had 11 points and 10 rebounds for USD (3-4, 10-11).

Loyola Marymount (0-6, 4-18), which led at halftime, 32-23, was paced by Syliza Bauer’s 16 points.
